Freezing food for your baby
Find out how to safely freeze and defrost your baby’s food.
Freezing your baby's food
If you are freezing purées, bear in mind the following food safety
tips.
- Once food has cooled down, freeze it as soon as possible. Your
freezer should be 0ºF (-18ºC) or below.
- Label food clearly with the contents and date. Fruit and
vegetable purées will keep for a maximum of eight weeks.
- Thaw your baby's food thoroughly in the fridge before a meal,
heating gently in a saucepan or defrosting in a microwave. Always
reheat foods thoroughly, and check the temperature before giving it
to your baby. If you are using a microwave, make sure you stir the
food to get rid of any hot spots.
- Do not refreeze meals that have already been frozen and always
throw away any of your baby's leftovers.
- Once defrosted, do not heat foods more than once.
