From the moment your baby’s first teeth appear, it is important to start looking after them. Here is how to keep them clean.
As soon as your baby's first tooth shows, you need to start
cleaning them twice a day, morning and night.
Put a smear of baby toothpaste on a baby toothbrush and wipe it
over your baby's tooth. Or you can clean your baby's teeth with a
small amount of toothpaste on your clean finger.
It may not feel like you are brushing much to start with. At
this stage, the main thing is getting your baby used to this daily
routine and the feel of a toothbrush in their mouth.
You can clean your baby's teeth with your baby sat on your knee,
facing a mirror, so that they can see what is happening.
Advanced cleaning
Once your baby has a few teeth to be proud of, some more advanced
cleaning is required.
- Sit your baby on your knee facing the mirror.
- Put a small pea-sized amount of baby toothpaste on your baby's
brush then brush the teeth in small circles, covering all the
surfaces.
- Brush twice a day. And continue to help your child clean their
teeth until they are at least seven.
