Question

Hello, I started weaning my baby at 17 weeks on medical advice as he is a big baby. He took to it extremely well and now at 20 weeks will eat a variety of foods. I have read the answer to the question about how to know when baby has had enough to eat but my baby never does any of these things and it tends to be me that will stop feeding rather than him not wanting anymore. Is it possible to overfeed a baby? Thanks for your help.

Answer

I know it can be really hard knowing how much food is enough for your little one, especially if they are a big baby.

It is still important to take cues from your baby as to when they have had enough. If, after you stop feeding him, he is still hungry, then he may need more but certainly, you should try to avoid forcing him to eat when he has had enough, as this can teach him to eat when he is not hungry. It doesn't sound like you are doing this though.

If your son is the correct weight for his length, then he is unlikely to be overeating. I'd advise you to check his weight for height with your healthcare professional just to reassure yourself.
