Question
I was told you can add baby rice to a baby's bottle to start with. Is this correct?
Answer
It's advised that you do not add any solids to a baby's bottle
as these can clog up the teat and possibly cause choking. Also, if
the solids contain sugar, they can lead to tooth decay if given in
a bottle. This is because the baby may 'nurse' the
bottle, so that the liquid is in contact with teeth for a long
time.
So when you start to wean, try mixing baby rice with baby's
usual milk and offering a small amount on a spoon
instead. Weaning is all about getting your baby to take food
from a spoon and get used to new textures that are different from
milk.
