Question

Can a 9 month old eat mayonnaise?

Answer

Giving your child adult foods when they are still under the age of 1 is not recommended. Babies have different nutritional needs from adults, so it's important to give them a balanced diet, to allow them to grow and develop well. They actually need more fat in the diet than adults as it's a source of energy to help them grow. However, too much saturated fat from foods like butter and mayonnaise is not a healthy way to provide energy in the diet. Good alternatives could be vegetable or olive oil used in cooking, mashed avocado or full fat yoghurts.
