Question

I thought babies were not allowed cows milk until they were 12months old. I have since read that they can have it in cooking when they are six months old. What about baby yoghurts or things made with a cheese sauce. Are those ok? Also, is it because cows milk is actually bad for babies or is it just that it doesn't provide enough iron, vitamins etc

Answer

Thank you for your question.

You are right, it's OK to give your little one cow's milk as an ingredient in recipes, even if they are under the age of one year. Cheese sauce and baby yoghurts are also suitable. However, cow's milk is unsuitable as a main drink for babies under 12 months, as it lacks certain vitamins and minerals, such as iron.
