Question
Is it safe to give my baby who is seven months broccoli? I seem to remember reading it contains too much iron.
Answer
Thanks for your question.
It's really important to get a good source of iron into your
baby's diet, as it's needed for the development of the brain and
immune system. Broccoli is a good source of iron, especially if
consumed with vitamin C from fruit juice or citrus fruits like
orange. Red meat and fortified cereals are also a good source of
iron.
Broccoli certainly does not contain too much iron, when consumed
as part of a balanced diet. Make sure you give your baby a
wide variety of foods. For more information on why your baby needs
iron, have a look at my article here.
