Question

Am unsure that I am making my Heinz baby rice correctly. Am on week 3 of weaning for my 6mth old and gave him 5tsp of rice to 10 dessert spoons of cooled boiled water, is this correct?

Answer

Thanks for your question.

Our recommendation for making up baby rice is to use 1 teaspoon with 2 dessert spoons, so you are using the correct amounts to make up a larger serving for your baby. We advise that you use baby's usual milk, warmed, to make up baby rice.

The texture is intended to be quite runny as baby rice is intended to ease the transition from milk, which is liquid, to solid foods. As your baby gets used to eating solid food from a spoon, you can use a little less milk to mix the baby rice, to achieve a slightly thicker texture. You can also introduce other foods such as pureed fruits and vegetables to get your little one used to new flavours.
