Question

Hi, this is my 2nd baby. I want to breast feed again but would also like to formula feed as my husband works shifts and I want him and my 4 year old son involved but dont know what to do.

Answer

Do remember that the Department of Health recommends exclusively breast feeding in the first 6 months of your baby's life as it is accepted as the best form of nutrition for infants to ensure a good start in life.

If you would like your partner and your older son to be involved in feeding your new baby, have you thought about expressing your breast milk? Have a look at my article here for some tips. If you start to introduce infant formula alongside breast feeding, it will affect the amount of breast milk you produce so the best option is to breast feed exclusively and express milk so that your husband and son can feed your little one using a bottle.
