Question
Hi, my baby is 7 months old and began weaning at 4 months on the advice of our health visitor. Now we would like to introduce lumps, however he just starts gagging and then is sick. Any advice would be helpful.
Answer
Thank you for your question.
It may be that the food is a little bit too lumpy or that the
lumps are a bit too big. When first introducing lumps, they should
be small and soft, like a finely fork mashed banana for example.

The Department of Health recommends exclusive breast feeding for
the first six months of your baby's life. All babies are different
and develop at different rates. Your baby may start to show signs
they are ready for weaning earlier than six months. If this is the
case and you think your baby may be ready to start solids, speak to
your Healthcare Professional who will be able to advise you. Babies
under 17 weeks should not be given solid foods.
