Question

Hi, I've been feeding my 6 month old son baby rice after his last bottle for almost a month. He is now refusing to eat the rice & wakening from 6am whereas he used to have to be woken at 7. Could you please tell me if I give him some rusks mashed up with his formula if this would be as filling as the baby rice. He was taking almost 8 teaspoons of rice so I'm just wondering what the equivalent to that would be in the rusks or if you have something else you could suggest for me to give him at bedtime to help fill him up I would be grateful. Thank you.

Answer

Thank you for your question.

If you've been weaning your little one for a month now and have not increased the amount offered or the number of times you give him food a day, then it's probably just that he is hungry. He's growing at a very fast rate and needs lots of nutrients to grow and develop.

I would start to introduce some more foods such as fruit and vegetable purees or a rusk mixed with your baby's usual milk, as you suggest. I would also recommend introducing a second feed, for example in the morning. You could try a cereal (have a look at our product pages for some suggestions) or use a fruit puree, again, after your little one's milk feed.
