Question
My baby doesn't like veg on its own. I've tried potato, butternut squash and avocado and did not like any of them but when mixed with fruit she has eaten it. How can I introduce new veg on its own. She is 23 weeks old and has been on baby cereal for 2 weeks now.
Answer
It's not unusual for babies to reject vegetables when they first
try them. Babies have a preference for sweet tastes, so that's
probably why your little one will eat vegetables when they are
mixed with fruit.
In the first few months of weaning, babies are quite receptive
to new tastes, so it's a good time to experiment with flavours. You
may need to keep trying with flavours that your baby doesn't like
first time. So with vegetables for example, you may need to offer
the same vegetable on about 8 separate occasions before your little
one will like it. Don't forget, if you can get your baby to like
vegetables at this stage of weaning, they're less likely to become
fussy eaters later on.
Good luck!
