Question
My 1.7 year old son only drinks milk, rarely any solid food. Will this meet his nutrition requirements?
Answer
After the age of about 6 months, it's really important to
introduce a source of food as milk can no longer provide all the
nutrients a baby needs. By the age of 12 months, most children
should be eating family foods and, while milk is still an important
source of nutrition, most nutrients will now come from food.
So it's very important to keep trying to introduce food to your
little one, to fuel his healthy growth and development. Keep
offering lots of different types of foods and let him try to feed
himself. Try crustless toast soldiers, banana slices, yoghurts or
soft cooked vegetable sticks for starters. I
would also advise that you chat with your healthcare
professional for some advice on how to get your little one to
eat.
Good luck and do let us know how you get on.
