Question
I just want to ask what particular foods are high in fat that I can give my 14 month old daughter, because I was told by my GP to give her foods high in fat.
Answer
Toddlers need a diet that is higher in fat than adults to give
them the energy they need to grow. It's important to avoid giving
lots of foods high in saturated fat though like butter,
chocolate, fatty meat and cakes.
Good ideas for higher fat foods would be avocado, oily fish like
salmon and mackerel (do check for bones), olive or vegetable oils
and nuts and seeds. As nuts and seeds are a choking risk for young
children, it's best to use ground nuts or seeds or nut butters like
peanut butter, spread thinly on toast or bread.
These kind of foods provide essential fats to help your toddler
grow and develop.
