Question
Is it ok to give my 9 month old dairylea on brown bread, or jam or marmite? I have bought brown as I'm sure will be better for her. If not dairylea what cheese spread is best.
Answer
It's best to avoid giving your little one adult foods until they
are over a year of age, as they can contain the wrong levels of
nutrients for little tummies. For example, some cheese spreads or
yeast extract can be very high in salt. Remember that children
under one should only eat a gram of salt or less in a day.
If you'd like to use adult spreads on your little one's bread or
toast, go for ones that are low in salt (less than 0.3g salt per
100g).
