Question

When can i give my baby cows milk?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Babies should not be given cow's milk as a main drink until over the age of 12 months, as it is not nutritionally suitable, for example, it does not contain enough iron. The only suitable alternative to breast milk is infant or follow-on formula until the age of 12 months.

You should avoid giving your little one semi-skimmed milk as a main drink, until they are over 2 years of age, as it does not contain enough energy and is low in some nutrients that a toddler needs to grow. Skimmed milk should not be given until a child is over 5 years of age.
