Sweet Potato Cottage Pie


  • 80g minced beef fillet or rump steak
  • Half a small onion (25g), chopped
  • 1 medium carrot (70g)
  • 100g sweet potato
  • 50g potato


  • Place the mince in a non-stick frying pan and cook over a medium heat, stirring until beginning to brown.
  • Meanwhile, peel and finely chop the onion and carrot. Add to the mince and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Use a kettle to boil 125ml of water, add to the mince and bring to the boil, stirring. 
  • Simmer uncovered for 10mins or until the mince and vegetables are tender.
  • Meanwhile, peel, chop and boil the potatoes together in a small pan of boiling water for 10 minutes or until tender. 
  • Drain then mash until smooth. 
  • Mix the mince and potatoes together to form a thick puree. 
  • Serve at room temperature or warm.
