Your baby’s coming up for 6 months and you may be starting to think about introducing them to solid foods. But how do you know that they’re truly ready for weaning? Look out for the three signs of readiness shown below, which are all linked to your baby’s development:
exciting times ahead!
A stable base. Can your baby sit up and hold their head steady? This is all about safety, as it minimises the risk of choking.
Good hand-eye coordination. Does your little one pick up toys and take them towards their mouth to explore? This skill is needed, whether you’re going for baby-led weaning or traditional spoon weaning.
Absence of the tongue thrust reflex. Does your baby open their mouth readily when an object (like a clean weaning spoon) is popped onto their bottom lip? Or do they push out their tongue?
